Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Mr. Jiu Jitsu.

What is Mr. Jiu Jitsu?

Mr. Jiu Jitsu is an AI-powered coaching platform built specifically for grapplers and BJJ athletes. You get multiple AI coach personas (each with a different teaching style and philosophy), a training journal with AI analysis, video analysis using Gemini, a weekly coaching report emailed every Monday, and a persistent athlete profile that grows with every session you log.

What makes this different from just using ChatGPT?

ChatGPT knows nothing about you and gives generic advice. Mr. Jiu Jitsu builds a detailed picture of your game over time:

  • Athlete memory — auto-extracted from your journal entries. Your coaches know your strengths, weaknesses, and what you've been drilling.
  • Game map — you define your A-game, guard, passing, go-to submissions. Coaches give advice that fits your style, not generic BJJ.
  • Journal context — you can bring specific entries into chat. "Here's what happened in my last roll — what should I have done?"
  • Video analysis — upload your match footage and get a technical breakdown from your coach.
  • BJJ-only guardrails — every coach stays on the mat. No productivity tips, no random LLM conversations.

How does the AI learn about my game?

Two ways:

  • Automatic — every time you log a session, an AI call extracts your strengths, weaknesses, and current focus. This builds your Athlete Profile without any extra work.
  • Manual — the Game Map page lets you explicitly define your A-game, guard, passing, submissions, and notes. The more detail, the better the coaching.

Both are injected into every chat session automatically. Your coaches always have context — you never have to repeat yourself.

What is the weekly coach report?

Every Monday morning, if you trained the past week, you'll get an email from your AI coach. It covers: how the week looked overall, one or two patterns spotted across your sessions, and one specific thing to focus on this week. It reads like a real coach checking in — because it's built entirely from your actual journal entries, not boilerplate.

You can turn this off in Settings at any time.

What is the Game Map?

The Game Map is where you document your personal BJJ system — your A-game, guard game, passing game, go-to submissions, sweeps, and escapes. Think of it as telling your coaches how you actually play, so they stop giving you advice that doesn't fit your style.

If you play X-guard and attack leg locks, your coach should be helping you tighten that system — not suggesting butterfly guard entries. The Game Map makes that happen.

How does video analysis work?

Upload a match clip or drill video (up to 20 MB) to any journal entry. Hit "Coach review" and your chosen coach analyzes the footage using Gemini 1.5 Pro — frame by frame, with BJJ-specific eyes. You get a breakdown of positions, transitions, missed opportunities, and specific drills to address what they saw. No other BJJ app does this.

Will this replace my real coach?

No — and it's not trying to. Your real coach can feel your base, correct your grips in real time, and drill with you. AI can't do any of that.

What AI is good at: pattern recognition across months of training data, being available at 2am when you're analyzing your tournament loss, remembering everything you've ever logged, and giving you a structured place to think through your game. It's a supplement, not a replacement.

What are tokens? How does billing work?

Tokens are the credits you spend when you use AI features — chat messages, journal analysis, video analysis. Every new account starts with 500 free tokens, enough to try everything without a card.

When you run out, you can buy more on the Billing page:

  • Starter — 5,000 tokens for $4.99
  • Training Camp — 20,000 tokens for $14.99
  • Black Belt — 60,000 tokens for $39.99

Tokens never expire. Buy once, use at your own pace.

Can my gym or instructor use this?

Yes — this is one of the most powerful features. Any gym owner or instructor can create a gym account, build a custom AI coaching persona (named after their gym, trained on their philosophy and specialties), and invite students with a short code.

Students see the gym's AI coach on their Coaches page alongside the global coaches. The gym coach knows their game map and journal history just like the global coaches do. It's your curriculum, your voice, available to your students 24/7.

Go to Gym in the nav to get started.

Which AI models are used?

You can choose per chat session — Claude (Anthropic), GPT-4o (OpenAI), or Gemini (Google). Video analysis always uses Gemini 1.5 Pro since it handles video natively. Journal analysis and athlete profile extraction use Claude Haiku (fast and cheap). Weekly reports use Claude Haiku. Chat uses whichever model you pick.

Is my training data private?

Your journal entries, videos, and messages are stored on AWS infrastructure and are only accessible to you. We do not sell your data or use it to train AI models. When you use AI features, your content is processed by Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google depending on the model selected — subject to their standard API data handling policies.
